Family Attractions & Places to Visit With Kids in North Devon

As anyone who regularly holidays with children will tell you, it can be tricky to keep the whole family happy with things to do that appeal to everyone.  Here are a selection of ideal places to go in North Devon when the younger ones get restless, with activities kids and adults alike should enjoy. All of the following are within easy distance of Woolacombe Bay:

A Castle-full of Fun (Watermouth)

Packing a serious amount of play into a single family attraction, Watermouth Castle has a lot to entertain children and adults of most persuasions. Dad will probably enjoy the 2p retro slot machines as much as the kids, while the family can also solve the labyrinth, enjoy the adventure playground and discover a whole raft of other fun (and sometimes slightly random!) things to do. Virtually all the rides are included in the ticket price too, although you might want to arm yourself with plenty of 2p coins for the retro arcade! Find out more HERE

A walk with a hop, skip and a splash (Exmoor)

If your idea of the ideal family day out is a little wilder than the local amusements, why not head for Exmoor with the kids? You’ll find no shortage of woodland trails and babbling streams, with enough wildlife to fill an old school I-Spy book! Dozens of suitable sites exist, but for a pleasant walk with lots to see, a cream tea and the chance to have a quick dip in the stream, Watersmeet is great for families, with several easy walks and a handy café. Tractor Rides at Mortehoe Museum

While museums in general can be slightly deadly for families with young kids, here is a local collection that should keep them amused through the summer holidays. A whole range of cute and curious local artefacts, crafts and information will keep the grownups happy, while the July and August Tractor Rides (every Tuesday and Wednesday) should keep the kids entertained while giving everyone a good look at the coast and local wildlife. Saddle up for Adventure (Woolacombe)

Holidays can be a great time to start a new hobby or interest, or indeed expand upon one that is already familiar. Kids and parents needn’t have ridden so much as a pony before to get involved at Woolacombe Riding Stables, where beginners and all youngsters of seven or over are more than welcome. Meanwhile, the slightly more experienced riders can put their skills to practice with some lovely coastal trails, without a car in sight. All Weather Fun in Atlantis (Bideford)

Should you have a car load of restless kids to entertain, the various play zones and games of Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, could be just the thing. Even on the wettest and unluckiest of days with bad weather, the park stays open and offers enough to tire the most active of kids, whether it’s an hour climbing aboard a pirate ship or enjoying an almighty water fight in the “Water Wars” zone. Find out more at the official website HERE.

Cutthroat Crazy Golf (Woolacombe)

Rated by many as among the best crazy golf courses in Devon, this is a belting little challenge for kids and parents who like to get a little competitive. A range of tricky and tantalising holes will certainly test your skills, while the pirate jokes might test mum’s patience.  There are also other novelty activities including bumper boats and quads to try.
