As we cannot welcome you into our house, for now, we thought we’d share a few techniques for enjoying time spent in yours. These tips promote mindfulness, moments of calm and may relieve any anxiety you are currently feeling.
1. Get a fresh perspective
Bring plants into your homeWe have had some wonderful weather over the last few weeks, so staying at home has been challenging for us all. Why not bring a little of the outside in, and to change the feel of your space with some indoor greenery? Especially great for thos of us who are working from home (unexpectedly!) our hotel team has found that a little bit of plant life goes a long way:
- Boost mooding, productivity, concentration and creativity.
- Reducing stress, fatigue, sore throats and colds.
- Cleaning indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity and producing oxygen.
- Adding life to our temporary work-form-home offices.
2. Take time to reflect
START A BEDTIME JOURNALUse this time to get into the habit or writing a short diary entry before bed, noting three things you are looking forward to, and are grateful for.
Making time for yourself in this way can increase productivity and positivity - when you take the time to focus on the good things in your life you naturally become more positive. This, in turn, can help improve self-esteem, as it invites you to be present with your own achievements. It can also improve sleep quality and, if you've been in a quandary about something, it's amazing how many times you'll find that you have the answers in the morning! If, after journalling, you still have difficulty getting to sleep, reach for your favourite book - you know, the one with the crinkled edges :)
3. Get a sense of escape
LEARN A NEW SKILLSometimes you don't actually need to go very far at all to get a sense of escape - it can be found in your own home. Use this time to think about a new skill you would like to acquire, such as cooking, painting, or even learning a new language.
We thrive on progression, so taking on a new skill or challenge you’ve always wanted to do will make you feel better and make you feel like you are accomplishing something. Set aside regular time to practice this skill, helping to develop a strong habit that will stay with you - even once we have the freedom we may currently be craving!
4. Take a moment for self-care
HOME PAMPERINGTake a moment to refresh your skin with our 'Visible Brilliance' home facial. Featuring yogurt, this store-cupboard facial is filled to the brim with lactic acid which will lift away rough and lacklustre surface cells to uncover newer, brighter ones. Thanks to the moisture magnet honey, your skin will feel soft and elastic. If you have any pigmentation issues, Turmeric great for combating these.
To get started, simply combine 1 tablespoon of natural plain yoghurt with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Mix, apply, wait 15-20 minutes, then gently rinse and moisturise.
Taking a moment to take care of yourself can work wonders. If the sun is shining and you have outdoor space, pop out and listen to the birds while your skin is being nourished.
5. Talk it out
CONNECT WITH CONVERSATIONIf you are feeling particularly out-of-sorts, and you need a really effective solution to help you feel better, there's nothing better than conversation.
Talk. Even if that is not something you necessarily enjoy doing. Talk to your friends, family, anyone. Humans need to feel connection. It’s what makes us feel happy. Free apps such as Zoom can help you connect with people near and far, and you don't have to make a lot of effort, simply sit and have a cup of tea together. or why not cook the same meal over FaceTime, then talk while you eat together?
